Dallas Fair Park is an historic 277-acre public park located in the heart of Dallas, Texas. Originally known as East Dallas Static Park, the park was originally built in 1886 and is now home to the annual State Fair of Texas, the largest state fair in the United States. The park includes nine permanent buildings, numerous museums, art galleries, performance venues, and recreational facilities. It is also home to the Texas Discovery Gardens, a seven-acre urban oasis with a variety of native plants and wildlife. Fair Park is also a major venue for outdoor concerts, festivals, and other special events. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the most visited parks in Dallas.
Fair Park is also known for its art deco style architecture and sculptures. The most famous of these is the Texas Star, a 75-foot-tall ferris wheel that is the centerpiece of the park. Other notable art deco structures include the Hall of State, the Automobile Building, the Hall of Negro Life, and the Cotton Bowl. Fair Park is also home to many murals, sculptures, and other works of art. The park also features a variety of original works, including the Life in Texas mural, which depicts scenes of Texas life from the 1930s.
