'Angel Oak' - Charleston - South Carolina - USA
The Angel Oak Tree is a massive southern live oak tree located in Angel Oak Park, near Charleston, South Carolina. The tree is estimated to be between 400 and 500 years old, making it one of the oldest living trees in the country. It is a popular tourist destination and known for its massive, spreading branches and massive trunk, which have a diameter of over 28 feet. The Angel Oak is a symbol of strength and resilience, and is considered a testament to the enduring beauty of nature. Visitors come from all over the world to admire its grace and grandeur, and to experience the sense of awe that comes from standing before such a magnificent and ancient tree.
There were particular challenges photographing this tree. For one, tripods are not allowed anywhere near the tree so this had to be shot whilst holding the Gigapan rig extremely tightly whilst crouching on the floor making sure not to come in contact with the ground. After many attempts, I succeeded to capture a 324 megapixel image of this tree which is one of the highest resolution images of this tree taken. The detail it has is incredible and it is truly like you are there when this is printed to large sizes.
